The first student newspaper at Chelsea High School, known as "The Chelsean" appeared on September 21, 1912. Written by the Senior Class of 1913, it's purpose was to keep the community informed on the happenings of CHS students. In the 1940's, CHS news was printed in a weekly column in the Chelsea Reporter titled simply as "School News," until November 18, 1948 when the name changed suddenly and without explanation to Dragon Tales. While The Dragon Tales is no longer in publication, generations of Chelsea High School Alumni have fond memories of the student-led newspaper and it's articles.
As part of our commitment to preserving the history of Chelsea Schools and the districts that annexed into Chelsea, the Alumni Association is collecting copies of The Dragon Tales for publication on our website. Anyone with copies of The Dragon Tales is encouraged to contact Meredith Walker-Simerly (Class of 2001) at [email protected] for copying of the publications. All originals will be returned to the owners, as the Alumni Association desires only to copy the newspapers and share in digital format, unless the owner wishes to donate the publications to the Association.
